WATCH: How the Steyr AUG Went All-American
Steyr’s AUG reigns as King of the Bullpup Rifles, and has since it was selected by the Austrian army in 1977. If you’re not familiar, the AUG A3 M1 is a civilian-legal variant that boasts all of the features demanded by Austrian defense forces. (Except full-auto fire capability, natch.) What has made the AUG so iconic–other than the fact that Steyr was the first to bring this brilliant platform to market? It’s about durability: Filthy weather and filthier ammo can’t keep the dual gas-adjustment settings from running like new no matter what. Matching yet opposed operation and stainless steel guide rods affixed to the bolt carrier glide effortlessly in the receiver. Short-stroke gas-piston operation runs clean…and runs circles around everyone else.
But how did this creation make its way from the edelweiss-bedecked mountains of Austria to the hearts of American shooters everywhere? Check out this awesome new video from Steyr Arms to find out–we bet you’ll learn some things you never knew.
Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you that you can win a Steyr Scout in our Stay Home, Stay Safe $4.5K Guns & Gear Giveaway! Hosted by our sister publication, Guns and Gadgets Daily, it ends May 8, so don’t delay. Click here to enter.
