Field & Stream Hotels: Coming Soon to an Outdoor Destination Near You

There’s no word as to whether the new owners will continue print, digital or social media for Field & Stream Magazine.
Recently, the Field & Stream brand was recently sold to a company called Starwood Capital Group, a private investment firm. There are many questions related to the Field & Stream magazine, but we have one unexpected answer: You’ll be able to read that magazine in the lobby of a Field & Stream hotel soon.
The plan is to start with approximately 20 to 25 hotels, first targeting U.S. markets in close proximity to authentic natural experiences, including national parks, beaches, mountain, and ski towns. The investment groups have noticed how many Americans began enjoying outdoor adventures during the pandemic, and the fact that not everyone went “back indoors” when the pandemic ended. They also noticed that, unless you’re prepared to camp out, the lodging options near many outdoor destinations are … lacking.
Let’s be honest, so have you, right? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat crossing my fingers and whispering “No Whammies” to myself as I roll up to the motel closest to the national forest where I’m going to hunt. I don’t need room service and 1,000-threadcount sheets, but I would prefer to have a door that locks and a bathroom with the absolute minimum of visible blood. On more than one occasion, I’ve checked out and spent the night in my car so I can have some security and privacy.
We don’t yet know whether or not Starwood intends to continue the storied, 152-year-old Field & Stream magazine brand, and it would be the worst kind of shame if they let it go into history. That said, if the group can give me an alternative to the Bates Motels in which I’ve found myself, I’ll raise a (wow! clean!) glass to their memories.
“We are honored to be partnering with Barry and the entire Starwood Capital team to launch Field & Stream Lodge Co. Extending the legacy of Field & Stream that is rooted in trust and history is incredibly inspiring and aligns with the approach that AJ Capital leverages in every project,” said Ben Weprin, Founder and CEO of AJ Capital. “Field & Stream hotels will be a modern take on an American classic. As we have demonstrated through Graduate Hotels and Marine & Lawn Resorts, we believe our design-forward and vertically integrated approach will position the platform to scale rapidly and capitalize on consumer demand.”
