BLM Kicks Recreational Shooters Out of Bears Ears National Monument

I’m pretty upset about this news. So why do I suddenly feel the urge to Tune In Tokyo?

Ever got so mad that Donald Trump exists that you deleted a million acres?

Me neither! But the Biden/Harris administration did. And no, I’m really not exaggerating about the reasoning behind this latest development; there were no studies done to justify closing down 1.36 million acres to recreational shooting. We learned this back in June, when the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) was working to dismantle shooting access at the Sonoran Desert National Monument. Now it’s happened again, with Bears Ears National Monument.

The Bureau of Land Management issued a final rule on its proposed management plan for Bears Ears National Monument in southern Utah, which includes an outright prohibition on recreational shooting of any kind for any purpose. Bears Ears, like all national monuments, are generally open to recreational shooting by the public, and for many in the western United States, public lands such as these provide the only opportunity for such activities.

“No surprise here, BLM told everyone many months ago that the agency’s preferred alternative was to ban recreational shooting altogether,” said Dr. Todd Adkins, Senior Vice President at the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “The notice and comment process proved meaningless, so we must turn to the courts to keep public land truly public.”

The Sportsmen’s Alliance is pulling together a coalition of organizations and individuals to challenge the BLM rule in federal court. The National Shooting Sports Foundation and Safari Club International have already come out in vociferous opposition to this latest move from BLM. Many organizations fight to protect America’s outdoor enthusiasts, including recreational shooters, and the Sportsmen’s Alliance is actively engaged with many of these groups to find the right pathway forward.

“There are federal statutes that require BLM to have considered a different approach than an outright ban,” said Michael Jean, Litigation Counsel for the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “Whether by oversight or with clear intent, we cannot stand by as our members and supporters are thrown off public land in violation of existing law, and we won’t.”

Sorry. I just can’t get past their acronym of BLM. Totally interchangeable from one terrorist group to another.

im a gun owner and I like to shoot ,my question is why do you want to go to public land and star shooting ,you never know who is on the other side of those bullets ,animals ,humans ,extra terrester identities you never know ,shooting should take place in a secure location in my opinion ,is no reason to be so angry about this decisions for the good of humanity

Your assumption is totally wrong! These areas are for the purpose of sportsman to engage in their lawful rights to pursue their shooting sports on such lands. Your reckless statement, “you never know who is on the other side….” reflects your own lack of understanding your responsibilities as a shooter! Best you keep your shooting to confined ranges where you can be controlled, monitored, and you don’t have to think! The BLM decision infringes on my rights to pursue my sport without justification under law!

If you are truly a gun owner, take a shooting course and get some obviously need training. Then you will understand how we the rest of us are safely using public land for our sport. And by the way, we’ve been doing this for a long long time, before you were born in many cases. This ruling is more democrat nonsense treading on we the people, nothing less.

More back door gun control. Seventy percent of the West is owned by the Fed. government. It needs to stop restricting Americans access to public lands. There is NO need to restrict shooting access to these lands.

Actually, it was made a monument under Obama to prevent it being destroyed my oil drilling and mining. So maybe why would Trump have hated protecting it for THE PEOPLE over turning over to his rich buddies to destroy? Biden just reversed it. All under EXECUTIVE ORDERS by all three, before you start hating on those too much.

Is this permanent or temporary due to drought conditions? Temporary to allow recovery?

There are about 5000 sq miles of public land just in that county. is 3000 sq miles not enough to to use for shooting? Maybe if people in past hadn’t been destroying archeological sites, ignoring posted roads, etc (and we have all seen how people trash open area shooting sites, leaving full of trash), so as usual – the responsible now get to pay for the irresponsible.
