Fair-Chase Archery World Record Caribou Crowned

Pope and Young, America’s leading bowhunting conservation organization, is excited to announce a new world record Woodland Caribou in the velvet category. Pope and Young announced thirteen new world records at their 33rd Biennial Convention in April of this year, with this incredible bull being one.

Daniel Welker’s bull set the world record with a score of 362 1/8”, this is an incredible 107” larger than the next largest confirmed Woodland Caribou in Velvet of 254 2/8”. Daniel’s score was confirmed at the February 2023 Pope and Young Panel Verification in Reno, Nevada. This incredible bull was taken on August 28th, 2021, in Bergeo, Newfoundland.

“Finally, it’s opening day for Woodland Caribou season,” stated Daniel Welker. “The sun is rising and we’re in the perfect spot. Not even five minutes passed, and we had our eyes on the bull. Without hesitation, we discussed and executed our plan. We were all blown away as I put my hands on him for the first time. I now had my second Top Ten entry into The Pope and Young Club.”

“Daniel’s 2021 caribou sets the bar extremely high for this category. Equally as impressive was his attitude and his eagerness to offer his help as a volunteer at the 2023 Convention in Reno,” said Tim Rozewski, Director of Records. “Without being asked, Daniel offered his help to my small trophy display team where he assisted us for two days after the Convention had closed. I was able to hear more about his Roosevelt’s elk that was also awarded at convention, and his eagerness to become more involved in Pope and Young as a volunteer.”
